An email from, David Walther:
Dear Friends,
Please read the following from Rob Mitchell who heads up the good group Elephant Protection Association. On Friday of this week there is a public hearing of the Connecticut State Environment Committee. Your comments can be sent in via email (link provided below) to express your thoughts on this issue to the committee. They are considering making ownership of ivory in CT a felony. If this is a win for the environmentalists it is a loss for our freedom to own personal property based on the whims of an out of control government. The African Elephant is still not listed as endangered by our government so if they can get a non-endangered material made to be illegal to own they can do the same for any wood, shell, house building material, etc.. This can set a dangerous precedent for other states and the federal government.
Just as important are two good pieces of legislation in Washington. Consider asking your Congressmen and Senators to support HR 697 and S 1769. These are true elephant protection laws that will also stop the Federal government from banning the use of old ivory in the US. Recently these bills received a big boost of support by the Congress and Senate and your words of support at this time will further help them pass.
Lastly, if you can donate a little to the Elephant Protection Association, please do so. They are a good group. Forward this email to anyone you like.
