835 guys

Alright y'all, Ive been knockin on the doors of fellows that deal with this stuff year round. I want to know the exact gun/barrel/choke/ammo combination that y'all are using in you 835's. I am trying to come up with the best setup for my gun, and would like to hear as much input as possible. I know this is like beating a dead horse, but I just got this gun  from Santa, and would like him to think that I did my best trying to improve a product that He supported.

I use the X-Full turkey choke the gun came with and Winchester Supreme High Velocity 3" #5's.  The barrel length is 24" and this set up works great for me.  I stopped using 3.5" shells a few years back.  Missed a few birds that were real close with the 3.5" shells.  I've killed birds out to 50 yards with the 3" shells and that's good enough for me, plus I don't beat the heck out of my shoulder.

What rounds are you looking at shooting?  You going to shoot strictly lead or the Heavier than Lead shells? 

As letinmfly posted, I've seen the 835 do great with the X-Full choke.  The Jellyhead, Pure Gold, and my favorite Indian Creek does great too. 

With the new loads coming out from Environmental...  I think you'll get close to Nitro performance with a much better more economical shell. 

Oh by the way, almost forgot, if you can find a StarDot choke for that gun... get it.  They are older but shoot like a son of a gun.  gunbroker was where most people were finding them and for around $10 (I think).

They are also Hevi-shot capable (if memory serves me right )

I got a 835 the first year they came out and have shot a Mad Max in it ever since. I shoot Indian Creek in my other guns but with the results I was getting with the Mad Max in the 835, I saw no reason to change.

My 835 has the 24" barrel, Pure Gold choke and I shoot Winchester Supreme 3" #5's.

The extra full choke tube with hevi shot #6. It reaches way out and they do`nt flop around! Killer combo.

I have an 835 with a 24" ported barrel, I use a Pure Gold Choke with Win XR 3" #6s or Win HV 3" #6s. To be honest, with th3 835/PG combo, with just about any shell you run through it will easily kill a turkey out to 40 yds, obviously some better than the others. I've tried a jellyhead, StarDot, Indian Creek .690, Kick's, and HS Undertaker in that gun and the Pure Gold is what I liked the best. The other chokes shot some pretty good patterns as well, but I like how evenly distibuted the PG patterns are. Good luck with whatever you go with.
