I reside in a rural setting in the Northern part of Carroll County Maryland. For the first time since living here for 16 years I have a flock of hens and poults showing themselves in the fields behind my house. When I first noticed them about three weeks ago the poults were very small, maybe smaller than a chicken but now they are really growing fast. It was amazing to see just how quick these birds grew up and the behavior of these birds as they fed and were picked on by Crows and the occasional Hawk fly by. There's no wonder they are hard to kill when they can face danger from every angle. I've ranged these birds at a little over 250 yards from my kitchen window and when I use a box call at medium tone they perk right up. Their hearing must be impeccable. I knew they could hear and see well but that just amazes me.
