Maple, slate over glass

Here is a maple, slate over glass call i turned.. It sounds pretty decent, hole setup looks a bit off though.. , im getting closer to the sound i want. Want it raspier with a better breakover and louder, and i think i know how to do that!  But, i need to know what yall think of the overall shape, it fits well in my hands... How do you think it looks? Criticisms welcome!

That is a good looking call! How deep is your Pot? If it is too deep, that may be effecting the volume!

Thank you sir, it was 1" thick stock, so pretty close to that..

I can help with the holes. Here is the simple jig I use. Its a piece of ply with two boards at 90 screwed on top. Put your pot in the corner you made inside of the pot up. Line up your hole pattern between your pedistal and the side of the pot (in the middle). Then turn the pot over and drill from the bottom to the inside of the pot (less tearout). This way your holes will always be in a circle! Its a cheesey jig, but it works.

At least this is what I do.

Here's the jig I use for making my holes.



I cut all my holes prior to turning the call.  I make sure my call blank is 4" square and mark corner to corner then at the 2" mark across.  I then drill my center hole and the blank pivots on the peg.  I made a hole in the jig the distance from the center I wanted the sound hole so to setup, you drop the bit in the hole and clamp it to the press.  Then just spin the blank and hit the line and you are right on.
