Here is his story. He is a terrific kid.
Wallace Coleman Love has been chosen as a wish child for 2015. Coleman was born with a very serious and life threatening heart defect known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome, commonly called HLHS. Life is not compatible without immediate reconstructive heart surgery, followed by additional surgeries. Coleman had open heart surgery in Philadelphia PA at five days old, five months old and again at 30 months old. He also had five angioplasty heart procedures performed during the first three years of his life, with one of them resulting in a stroke that was caused by a clotting disorder that was unknown at the time. He has almost fully recovered from the stroke and is full of energy most of the time. His prognosis from HLHS is still a great deal of uncertainty at this time.
Coleman was initially categorized as being developmentally delayed because of everything he had dealt with since birth, but he was later diagnosed with Autism. He is now ten years old and is still non-verbal. He is full of energy and life itself, as he loves to play outside and especially loves swimming. He doesn’t like crowds or loud noises, and his patience is often very short. He also likes to ride 4-wheelers, but he spends most of his time on his iPad. Instead of fighting the crowds at Disney World or some other tourist attraction, or trying to fly commercial airline with oxygen, Coleman has elected to make his wish last for years to come. His wish is to have a commercial type playground set right in his own yard. He loves to slide and swing, and these activities also serve as sensory therapy.
