English walnut Hen Box
« on: March 21, 2015, 07:12:20 PM »
We down and got some English Walnut gun stock material with Matt. This blank was one of the smaller forearm blanks. Got some wood that I think will be as good if not better looking. Been working on this call while waiting on some wood to get in.  I put a Snakewood lid on it for right now going in the morning to see how she sounds in the woods.

Matt turned me on to a gun stock finish and I have 5 coats on it now. I hope to call in one more with my Walnut and rose wood for my Grand Daughter then I plan on retiring the call to her. It will be her first bird. So if God is willing Ol Crackell will be hers after next weekend. I'll have a new box to break in.

I get some money stashed away I'm going back. Matt went back and got a piece that is stunning. This is what happen this morning.
About and hour ago I was on the phone with Doug Morgan in MS and I called in 2 long breads and there were over a dozen Jakes with them. I was calling and they were gobbling and he was laughing. Trying to get me to send the call to him. I put the phone on speaker and he got to listen to the fun.  The call doesn't get super loud but has great tone to it. The gobblers like it. The gobbled probably atleast 50 times.
