Turkey call? Awhile ago I posted a similar topic in reference to your first turkey hunt. Since I've been hunting Turkeys and more recently into custom calls I have been reading little by little into the history of call making. I would like to see if you guys remember your very first turkey call.
For me I kind of look at it in two ways. My stepdad who introduced me to hunting always had a Roger Latham True Tone turpin box call laying around. I remember it was not easy to use as young as I was but this was my first call I practiced with. I remember when I saved my grass cutting money shortly after my first turkey hunt I bought my very first call
A Lynch Fool Proof One Sider...

I still have the call to this day only its a little darker in color. Boy have turkey calls come a long way.

My first call was a Smith All Butternut box, called in a half dozen fall turkeys with it on the first day I ever hunted turkeys.  Tagged one and thought "that was easy."

Little did I know luck was on my side.  Wish I still had that call.

My first two pot calls were a Quaker boy Aluminator that I still carry from time to time and a Camo copper pot glass call.  My first trip to the woods with those two calls I called in three long beards.  I've never been the same since.   *lol*

 A Lynch 1958, my dad gave me when I was 14. He had bought it and never turkey hunted. Killed my first gobbler with it the next year. He passed away in Jan. 3 months, before I took that gobbler.

My first call was a Ben Lee box call, still have it too!  Killed my first gobbler using it.

My first caller was a Roger Lathram True-Tone. My first day hunting with it, I gave 2 gobblers a ride home. Later on I bought a Lynch box, one of the field grades and didn't like it. Then I bought a World Class Deluxe which was the cause of several gobblers getting a free ride. But, probably my favorite back then, was a 50th anniversary Lynch World Class. It got busted and after that the custom craze hit. Been broke ever since!!!

I was thinking after I posted this I was sure I wrote the year I bought my Lynch call on the bottom of it and sure enough I did.....1988...I guess it doesn't compare to the previous Lynch mentioned that was 1958...

My first call was also a Lynch 1958 purchased in 1963. I had to order it through a local gun shop and it took 6 weeks to get it.
It is still in my call cabinet today in good shape.

one of the first calls I remember was a ole Ben Lee also---hunted it for years before I was repositioning and had it stuck in my shirt pocket as I was crawling to a different set up, and heard the dreaded sound....SNAP. I knew before I looked down, I had sat my knee on it and completely broke the right sound board. Ben had actually signed and gave the call to me as a young green hunter ----the same way I am today

I think I had a Smith Sweet Butternut ?? maybe the same type call as paboxcall
I still have the call but it has a new lid  ;D Yep I broke it getting up to get a turkey

I enjoy reading the responses guys. Not that my old Lynch box isn't a treasure but I started my oldest boy off this past Christmas with his first calls....a Kwila/Butternut short and longbox set by Jeff  McKamey. He's chomping at the bit to use them on youth day. I'd say he's starting off top notch!
