A fun one to Build.

Here is a one of about 11 promised box calls for Nashville.  It is going to Mike Langley of Headcrusher Calls.  I shared a booth last year and look forward to sharing one again with Mike.  He is just one of the many fine young call makers shooting up everywhere.  I really got a chance to know him last year.  There is an old saying that you never get to know a fellow until you share a duck blind with him.  Well, I have to say this applies to NWTF booths in Nashville.  Mike supplied the wood for this call from a piece he got at the show last year.  It is without a doubt the best example of chatoyancy that I have seen in a wood.  This wood is an ancient wood.  Like to see if anyone can guess it.  It is tight grained like old cypress.  This was a first for me.

Matched it up with a piece of Steve Brown's ebonized walnut.  Plan on putting a top hat on this one it turned out so well.

Guess the Box Wood  (No stain on this one, only deft laquer),  Mr. E

That's a really nice call, and an even better story to go with it about you guys getting to know one another. Good luck in Nashville this year.

Beautiful call John.  The box looks like Cherry to me.

Nice box...I'll take a stab at it.  I'm guessing it's Koa, which it and bloodwood is the only woods that I've fooled with that I've noticed any form of chatoyancy.

It is similar in color to Koa, and has about the same hardness of Cherry.  I guess that's why it does so well in a Turpin call.

If anybody is interested in some of this camphor just give me a call before Thursday. I will cut some from that slab and have it in our booth.
