Winchester Longbeard XR

Maybe I just missed it last year, but it looks like Winchester added new Longbeard shells with an extra 1/8 oz. of shot.  I wonder how many millions will be spent to see if the "Magnums" shoot better.  I wish they had put that development money into a 20 ga. Longbeard for the kids, girls and the infirm like me.  In the 3" #6, that is about 28 pellets more.  The velocity drops from 1200 fps to 1050 fps in both the 3" and the 3 1/2".   I wonder (not enough to research it) what that does to Winchester's 60 yard range claim?

I try to never shoot over 35 yards and I am appalled at manufacturers who tout their shells for long range.  However, I was quite impressed with the pattern I got with the Longbeard XR last year.  I only patterned at 30 yards because what I saw was all I needed to see.  A pellet only retains so much energy at a given muzzle velocity at a certain range, and the slower shells should be retaining much less energy as you get further down range, not to mention holdover.  C'mon guys, call em close, they deserve no less.

Having said that, I put a lot of stock in the capabilities of the new extended range shells, just because I realize how much better they perform at "normal" ranges.

Shell is dumb IMO.. Last year Win hit it out of the park with LB.. They created a shell that bridged the gap and drew from both markets.. The HTL maximum performance folks where some switched because 2 bucks a shell is so much more affordable, the Wal Mart shell group willing to pay a few more dollars for something better.. Than they create this..

Like you said 28 more pellets.. That gains you nothing as longbeard had no problem over exceeding expectations with its meager payloads.

I would have really liked to see two 12 gauge loads with the Resin.. A 2 3/4 #6 load at 1 1/2.. And also a 2 3/4 1 1/4 6 load marketed as a low recoil round which would make an awesome substitute for woman and children instead of having to buy a 20 gauge.

I just read the reviews on the long beard ammo. on cabelas website. Everybody is boasting of their kills at 55 to 65 yards.
Nobody seemed to mention the amount of cripples.

i couldn't agree more, shooting at turkeys over 40 yards cripples as many turkeys as kills.
