Looks like this years bad luck continues!!!
« on: December 20, 2009, 09:34:18 PM »
Well after living in our new house for 5 years now, We are having sand mound troubles (Leaking out the side), Contractor & inspector have to dig it up tomorrow, Took the top layer off Friday & it's not a broken pipe, Now they have to see if it is possibly the top or bottom layer of the sand. Another headache I don't need just before Christmas. More money I don't have to spend!!!!

Are you talking about a leach mound?

Ok that sounds horrible, but what is a sand mount problem?  I think I know, but don't want to embarass myself... wait I'd do that either way!  ROTFLMBO

I not sure , I'm new to them. I have a 3 tank system (solids/medium/liquid) that how they break down before being put in the the sand mound. Mine is about 60' long X 12' wide & 5' high. Sand on bottom, then gravel, then dirt.

Takes the place of a sewer system! All your waste water (sinks, toilets, showers, washer) go into it.

Sounds like the gravel has been saturated with solids. Dis they use filter fabric?

There is a fabric like tarp between the gravel & dirt.

Well then it sounds like a water table problem or ground saturation problem. But that is a big residential size mound. Has it been raining an above average amount lately?

Five years ....that mound should still be working. The soil will not perk, so the gravel and the sand work as the "filters". I would be calling the person who put it in.
