Turpin Box calls

Once in a while I like to challenge myself. I decided to make some turkey calls. Did all the research I could, read all availible information and I am now finishing my third call. Turpin hen box, Ebony over Curly Maple, and two Turpin short boxes,Paduak over Wormy Chestnut. I have gifted these calls to friends for the soul purpose of killing turkeys. The sound is getting better with each call and it has been fun.

Chris, you will find that the sound is all in the way the grain runs and the type of woods.  Traditionally the Old School calls like harder woods. Tuning an old school box is all in the angels.  Good luck on your new venture.  Give me a call if I may can help you.  I noticed you used Roger Latham's way of cutting down the back side of the paddle to keep it from hitting the box on the back end.  Turpin rasped that out from side to side with a rasp.  He also scored the bottom of the paddle on his with a big old file to hold the chalk.
