2nd Day PA Buck Down
« on: October 08, 2014, 11:03:51 PM »
Had a few days to hunt over fall break from college and took full advantage of them. Had an 8 point bed about 45 yards from me for 6 hours on the opening Saturday, never coming into my comfort shooting zone in the woods. No Sunday hunting in PA so Monday morning I was back in the stand (it was also my dad's birthday). He was able to hunt that morning too and as we left the truck he said it would be an awesome birthday present if one of us were to shoot a buck that morning. Turns out the turkeys were roosted in the tree his stand is in, bumped about 40 birds off the roost so we both got to listen to turkey talk all morning. Everything from young bird kee-kee's to gobbling. He saw this buck come past him at about 55 yards and 10minutes later he was 70 yards below me. Hit the grunt call and he walked 20 yards up the hill before continuing out the ridge. Grunted at him again and he walked right up to me. Curiosity got the best of him. Gave me a perfect 20yard broadside shot. Let a Ramcat broadhead fly from the Mathew's and it was all over at 8am. Called dad up and decided to let him hunt a bit and the. Have him come up to go recover it with me. Listened to turkey talk, drank some coffee, and enjoyed another 2 hours in the stand. Got to recover my 10th buck in a row and 2nd archery 8 point in a row with my dad on his birthday. Not the biggest buck I've harvested but it was a special memory. Good luck to everyone else this deer season!

Great story and really nice that you had that time to share with your Dad. My Dad would have been 91 today.
