A New NWTF Twist!
« on: September 07, 2014, 12:08:06 PM »
For those of you going to Nashville to the NWTF Convention and staying at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel:

Because of the bad weather that kept many folks away from last years convention, the NWTF and the Hotel have come up with a new twist. Your credit card will be charged 21 days before you arrive and you have only seven (7) days to cancel for any reason. If you cancel later than seven days, you loose one days cost for a room and the assorted taxes. So, if we happen to have another (global warming) storm, this year, a screwing of an even higher order will be, in the forecast!

It't nice that they have several motels close by that are nicer and cost 1/4.

Best Western WAS the best place to stay. They have bumped their price to $125/night for that weekend. Used to stay there the whole weekend for less than one night at opryland

The NWTF is standing on a slippery slope.

I am a member since 1978... haven't been to the Nationals since 2011.That event is a mere shell of what it once was.. The SEWE event in Charleston has better vendors, better hotels, better venue (Charleston, SC ) and way better restaurants.. We go there ..

I am seriously considering not renewing my membership... the crappy Better Homes and Gardens magazine that was once filled with Turkey related stories is reason enough.. I know many who have sent emails to NWTF "Corporate" and complained about many aspects of "our NWTF" as it was once known - only to be brushed off or flatly ignored.. It's a darn shame...

The members deserve better.

Why doesn't NWTF consider moving the dates for the show to a time when weather is less an issue?? June is nice in Nashville....
Seems like some new thinkers are needed in Edgefield..

I seldom make my reservations until close to the convention. I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow let alone next February.  I did go a day early last  year to beat the storm though.

Hey Bill, just curious, is this a NWTF doing or an opryland doing?  Seems it would be an opryland thing to me. I've already booked my hotel, not opryland and they are not doing this. I'm just wondering what the NWTF has to do with it? I'm not trying to defend the NWTF or anything, just wondering

In years past, I could use my Marriott rewards card and get my room at about $80.  That changed last year.  I'd say the NWTF wanted their cut.  Now I have to pay the regular rate.

Just my guess, but the past couple of years, the NWTF has been booking rooms and then placing a premium on them. Last year, I tried to get a room with a balcony and I was told the NWTF had them all booked....but if I would pay the extra $$, I could have one. I got one without a balcony!

So, to answer your question..............my gut tells me they got in over their heads last year with all the cancelations and are trying to get some of that back.
