Mountain biking
« on: August 03, 2014, 07:25:32 PM »
Just got back from mountain biking in Colorado,I now have a whole new outlook on what my son does on a mountain bike. Although 95 percent of the ride was awesome the 5 percent of going over the bars wasn't,t as fun. I have never done single track and wasn't,t used to all the rocks and steep  switch backs   Came  back a little bruised and battered and found  out I,m not as young as I used to be. Need to heal up a little before we go hiking in Rocky nat park. I think I see some tequila in my future.

Yup found all this out a few years back when I thought I could ride my snowboard in a half pipe. It had been 20 years since I had ridden a skateboard in a pipe but I thought what the heck.  Well then I fell and ripped my bicep tendon off my forearm. Surgery and 3 months out of work. Point being we heel much slower now as well. *aah* Take it easy Bill and come back in one piece. *peep* *cheers*

Single track on a mountain bike can be fun if you go slow at our age.  ROTFLMBO
Glad you had fun and didn't get too banged up.  It's hard staying in shape isn't it.

I ride my mountain bike during spring turkey season a good bit, but stay on the gas well roads and old logging trails.  Turkeys do not seem to mind the crunching of the tires on the gravel roads at all.

Do a little single track.  Its a great work out, to me riding doesn't even feel like "exercise," but you gotta do your research before riding - some single tracks are very technical throughout, while others are a nice mix of easy/hard sections.

We always stay to the easier sections, so knowing where to park and what direction to ride, and how far to ride out and back, helps.  Also helps knowing where not to park and ride before leaving the house staying off the technical sections keep us on the bike and out of the ER.   ;D

Lastly - we are not ashamed to dismount and walk the bike through any drops, rocks, major root systems, etc.

Still a little sore from the ride but I,ve been doing  some hikeing in the Rocky nat park. Now it,s just my feet that are sore. What an amazing place, I,ve  seen lots of elk,  some moose and sheep, got some really good pics of two bulls Tuesday. Bill and I spotted these bulls from a ways off and did a little stalk and got to within 50 yards of them, you are not supposed to leave the trails  in the park  but these bulls had me drolling.. Will post some pics later also came up on a cow nursing it,s calf got some good pics of that two A couple ten mile hikes in this altitude as me wore out.. I,m going to need a vacation to rest up from my vacation.

I ride here in Fl but its mostly flat, I average about a 100 miles a week on my mtb. I do it mostly for cross training for my dirt bike racing and since my race season starts in a couple of weeks I will back it off a little to spend a little more time twisting the throttle

I was a road racer a few decades ago. I did that for 10 years and just sold my road bikes, a Ciocc, a couple of original Schwinn Paramounts, and a few others before we moved to SC.

They were just memories at that point but I spend hundreds of hours racing all over the Eastern part of the country. Those were 6 day races, point to point, time trials, criteriums and track races.

can still remember getting off a bike and being numb pretty much all over. It was also hard to walk after a 100+ mile point to point road race.

Ah, those were the days. You brought back a lot of memories.

Get a little rest and get back out there. It's a great way to spend time out of doors and in your case with your son.

Thanks,
Clark
