Testing Man Made Green Hedge
« on: June 09, 2014, 07:53:16 PM »
I got a couple of blanks from a supplier in Arizona that is treating hedge to mimic mud cured. All I know is it takes months to do and is a chemical and pressure process but that is all I know about it. I turned the first 2 trumpets ever done with these blanks last week and this is #2. 5" bell with a 3" African blackwood mouth piece.

It kept the chatoyance in the wood so it pops when finished and it is a treat to turn.  Just thought you guys might like to see it. Sorry for the bad pics i lost my camera the other day on a fishing trip.

You did a great job on that trumpet Tommy.  I like the color of the wood and with true mud cured osage almost impossible to find, I don't care if it is man made.
Sharp.

Thanks everyone this one came out not too bad.

Jon, I ran it and regular hedge together and the sound is the same to me. This one the bell was adjusted to the owner's request and it takes more back pressure to run because he wanted a larger bell. Since this is just the second one I have used this wood on I will have to do a few more to be sure but so far it is as good as you would expect hedge to be.

This is a Duck made by JWT Custom Game Calls of AR with a piece of my Hedge, in the picture are some crosscut Hedge blanks to show the yellow left in them, they are all different as to the amount of yellow in them and no two calls will be the same!

Looks pretty sharp to me!

I thought it was mud-cured osage.
