First week in PA
« on: May 08, 2014, 05:01:19 PM »
Friday morning I rolled in from Missouri. After a nap My girlfriend and I went to listen for birds but heard nothing. I had a hunch so Dad and I were in the same place the next morning. At 5:45 I heard one gobble and off we went! I bought the ole man some Walker's ear muffs at Bass Pro so maybe he could finally hear one  ;D Once in the woods that bird kept quiet but I knew where he was. Another one across a ravine went to gobbling like crazy. I have never heard one go off like that. I swore it was someone pumped on their new haint or something. I did some soft limb talk on my KP trumpet to let the silent one know we were in there.

once he gobbled again he was on the ground. Dad was happy cause he could hear him getting closer. We sat at a big maple and I yelped on Richard's box. he ate it up and gobbled hard. Dad said he could not see very far so I gave him my spot and moved down the hill a few yards. I kept yelping on the box and a Cane Creek mouth call. He was moving to our right so I started yelping over my left shoulder and that did the trick. Less than a minute later I see Dad click the safety off and I smiled ear to ear. He made good on the shot and we went and admired his best gobbler to date. 1 3/16 spurs and a 9inch beard. He wouldnt let me carry it out but by the way he was breathing I'd say he was a whopper!!  ROTFLMBO
