I have a question about some wood that I have. This may belong in a different forum, so I apologize if that is the case. Disclaimer: I know very little about wood types or call making. These boards came from a building that is up on my family's land that was recently taken down. My great-grandfather's old store is to the left of where it stood (some of you may have seen me on the steps of the old store with turkeys). To the right of where it stood is another old building (we call it "Uncle Gordy's house") where my g-grandfather's friend lived and operated a smaller store in the front room; it is in pretty bad shape too, but it's still standing and there is a lot of wood I could get out of it.
I've been using the boards from the one that was taken down to mount deer heads on (Euro mounts). I have two questions, which I hope someone on here can help me out with. 1) Do you know what type of wood this is (I know it's hard to tell from only pictures)? My guess is cypress, but I could definitely be wrong. 2) Is there a chance these boards could be useful for making turkey calls? The short one I cut that you can see the wood grain in measures about 7/8" thick. I know there are boards of different sizes/thickness up there too.
Thanks in advance!
