Wish I had this awesome story to tell, but to be quite honest, one of the more borings hunts I've had. Birds didn't gobble, barely strutted, but I did call this one away from a hen with an all Osage Jordan built by Daryl!
I knew he was coming my way and it did make me nervous. He semi-strutted once and then just kept walking. At 36 yards he started getting nervous, so I let the 12 gauge roar and the #5 Longbeards dropped him. I put a heck of a hole in his head and blew a lot of feathers off! It wasn't the greatest shot and I had to hurry on the shot.
I'm done my first week and now off to try and get some friends a bird called in. I would have never known this bird was around, but a hen gave him away
All in all another fine bird on the ground. He had broken both of his spurs and I still need to measure the beard. Spurs were maybe 1/2 to 3/4" and he was shot in the rain. One thing I learned is... you cannot shoot them while in bed!
