The Huntress
« on: March 23, 2014, 06:11:57 PM »
There was a plan for this piece of Spalted Tiger Hackberry, however an unanticipated mishap on the lathe changed all that. Sometimes you encounter voids in stabilized woods, and the resin doesn't always impregnate the wood completely. For whatever reason, the throat section snapped. As you can imagine I was quite disappointed, but after thinking about it, I realized that now I had creative license to craft a new design.
I bored out the barrel and lined it with brass tubing for added strength. A piece of Ivory was chosen for the mid section and tenons turned to fit into the barrel and lanyard section, I also added brass accents at the transitions.
With disaster comes opportunity, as this Lil Tramp was successfully transformed into.. "The Huntress"...some things are just meant to be..I hope you like her, Dave
