Jeff , I've used the garmin Legend for a long time, It's easy to use and small enough to carry any where. IT is nice to be able to get to that certain tree in the dark and not stumbling around looking for it. You can't go wrong with a Garmin.

I have the Garmin Oregon 400T and it does fine for me.  When I have cell phone coverage Google earth is also a must as well when on out of state trips.
