I will say this, I know the box call division did not suffer by having alternate judges. I know 4 of us were well qualified to judge and from what I saw of the 5th person he did a nice job of judging. I wasn't with him on every call he played, but I did watch him for a bit, just to see how he ran the calls just for my curiosity. I think we all did alright.

I don't think the other categories suffer as much as the trumpet/wing bone/Jordan, division. Getting (qualified) judges has always been the most difficult for that division. JMO.    And I don't think tube calls, should be called (classified as) locator calls either.

I agree Bill. It is the hardest division to find judges for. For as many people as we had that couldn't make it, I think Charlie and his staff did a great job in getting judges lined up.

Very true Job.

The trumpet category may not be the only category to suffer from having qualified judges.

I would love to do the tube call division
No way are they just a locator call they are a tool just like all the other calls. You can use them from locating until pulling the trigger

I believe that Turpin and Gibson boxes need their on category as well, though I'm not to sure that will ever happen.

Job, the judges were myself, Scott Basehore, a guy by the name of Ronald Martin from California, and for the life of me I cannot remember the other two guys names.

My honest answer..............NO!

Bill

I kan appreciate your honesty....even if it don't make everyone happy.. 8)

Very honest answer indeed

I'm glad three judges could play them but sad that two couldn't

That's unfair to call makers, judges and all involved

That's exactly why the call maker in the air operated and all categories should be judged running his/her own call behind a curtain in front of a panel of copetent judges. Until this happens it's nothing short of a circus....

then you would be judging the caller instead of the call..example..i make a better call....but you kan play yours better.. see... everybody will never be happy with the way its done..regardless of the judges... ;D

A maker running there own call is absolutely ludicrous. Call numbers would be down and like K said, you would be judging the caller not the call. Part of the criteria is ease of use. You can't judge that without having your hands on the call. And yes, that is an important part of the criteria.

Who's fooling who, here? You guys really think that in a calling comp., the judges don't have a good idea who's calling on stage! A winning routine is hard to forget!

Never said it was the 1st thing. Said it was important. I agree Bill people running calls behind a curtain is in no way the answer. That's my opinion. I know some guys are wanting judges to be rotated every year. That sounds like a good idea, except for the fact that they have a hard enough time getting judges now. And that's with those of us who do it every year.
