 I haven't been able to find when snuff cans first showed up, but I would suspect that they would be considered, the first "tube call" made.

Here is info on Leon C. Johenning of Lexington, VA. He patented his "tube call" in 1958.

They were originally developed, as a Goose call.

Miss Delta and Flyway, and the upper Chesapeake Bay area's, were the testing grounds.

Waterfowl hunters found the versatility in the call, and it found it's way into Turkey hunting as well.

As time progressed, as the Goose Flute's, so died the Tube for Goose, It found a lifelong home, in the hands of Turkey Hunter's.

Kenny ran into a federal game warden in the woods who was using a plain bitter Garrett's snuff can with the half-moon cut out.  I can't remember the name of the warden but he was using the can with the membrane on top rather than on the bottom, in other words, upside down.  Kenny was impressed with the sound and began to ponder what a wooden barrel of the proper dimensions would do sound-wise.  He turned the caller around and the rest is history.
