Box call ???

I know most reputable call makers can do it with multiple wood combinations, but what is your favorite combo to get a high piched front end that rolls over into some rasp? I usually hear a lot of young, high pitched hens in my area every Spring. I guess the bobcats and coyotes keep them from reaching that ole raspy bark age. I have noticed the gobblers respond better to higher pitched calls, but the rasp at the bottom adds to the realism.

Maple/poplar, Cherry/Poplar or Cedar/Poplar.

Walnut paddle over cedar, poplar, walnut, mahogany are all great, great turkey combos and will yield the sound your looking for when tuned properly.  I agree with Bill, "when" an all walnut is right... it can be down right bad rear end!--Jason

  Consider, a one-sider, most guys that make boxes say they are higher pitched. Lots of folks use them for fall calling,
For the higher pitched young hens of the year.

I try to tune my calls to have the full range. But some callers just don't have the top end. Favorite combo is osage over butternut with cedar over poplar nest.
