Filbert {Hazelnut} Box
« on: January 26, 2014, 12:11:42 PM »
Aquired a box call last year [2013] made from Filbert, some folks call Hazelnut.

What a wonderful call this one turned out to be.  For rather a plain Jane wood to look at, she sure can sing.

The vibration and ring that this wood resonates is very good and this call quickly became one of my favorite "go to" calls.  The Lid to the box is Mulberry.

Just curious if anyone else has a call made out of Filbert or has ever seen one before and if you have who made it?  I hadn't seen or heard of one before last year.

The call was made by call-maker Niles Oesterle of Dardenne Praire, Missouri.

Best regards and good hunting this spring too!

I'm sure if Niles made it that the call is excellent. Great acquisition..

I have fun experimenting with different woods and I like to challenge myself, but I don't know of any other callmaker, other that Niles, who can consistently over and over produce some great sounding box calls with unusual wood selection and unusual grain.  I have no doubt your call is another fine example of Niles' craftsmanship.  Would love to see it.
