Time to post a few pics
« on: December 11, 2013, 12:35:16 PM »
Just now getting back in the shop for some winter call building.  But I managed a few small projects this fall. Thanks for the look! ;D

Wingbone calls I made for a very good friend to commemorate his Wyoming Merriam's.

Couple of trumpets and bones.  Nothing new here.  I have made a few trumpets over the years but for some reason they have captured my attention as of late.  Got some nice wood to work with down the road. More of these to come I think.  The one ugly bone in the pic is an old bird I killed couple years ago.  He came in, whipped 2 other birds and then bred the hen before I shot him.  All with a badly broken wing.  I figured he needed to live on a bit so I made this call in his memory, named it the "Old Warrior" and will use it myself.

This call set is very unique.  Was contacted by a friend in the mining industry. They found these old coal mine rail tracks buried and submerged in an old mine from the early part of the century.  More than likely and old mule or pony mine (they used these animals to pull the cars in and out of the mines) Wood is oak but is stained black from the water and environment. There is nothing on these but clear finish. I tried to use the wood in a variety of ways so a pot call, scratch box and a selection of strikers is what I came up with so far.  This set is a prototype. I will work up a final presentation set to auction off for money to support our local youth programs. It was an honor and a privilege to be able to work with such a unique and rare find as this.  There won't be very many of these for sure.

You have been busy LT.  That Old Warrior wingbone is a fitting tribute.
And man, that black oak is beautiful.  You made some good looking stuff from it.
