Some time ago I bought an Ithaca Flues model with Damascus barrel, made in 1908, bored cylinder and modified.  I was afraid to use modern shells in it when a friend told me about low pressure ammo put out by RST Co.  These shells are made for vintage guns.  The day before PA turkey season opened I took it for a walk and shot this mature male grouse.  Saturday I was able to harvest a mature hen turkey which will live on in a matched set of wing bone calls.  Having filled my turkey tag there wasn't much to do.  The person I was staying with had some English Setter dogs with him and he said lets get some Woodcock.  We took one of the dogs and she performed to perfection.

Ralph, Thanks for the info on RST Ammo.  My Dad has my Grandfather's 10 gauge and hasn't shot it since he was a kid.  It takes the
2 7/8"shells.  They sell them.  Hope they will sell me just a box.  I don't need a whole case.

They will sell single boxes, phone in your order.  I bought a box of 1 oz, 2 3/4" 7 1/2 and another of the 1 1/4oz pheasant loads.  shipping was $10.  I live near Allentown PA.

Well done Ralph.  A trio of native upland bird species in a weekend is a rare accomplishment.  That grey phase Ruffed Grouse is unusual too.  I can't really bust your chops after such fine wingshooting, but "dem pointerz dun turnd inta setterz"!!

That's the first grouse that I have seen in years.  I sure do miss hunting them.

Very nice Ralph. Nothing like a good bird dog, a double barrel, and some grouse and woodcock. I don't have any Ithacas but I upland hunt with an LC Smith field grade 20ga or a Fox Sterlingworth 12. A smart man once told me "God wants us to shoot double barrels...if he wanted us to shoot an over and under he'd of stacked our eyes like that instead of putting them side by side" lol
