First archery buck
« on: October 30, 2013, 02:31:30 AM »
I've shot 8 bucks with the rifle in my 8 years of hunting, it just never panned out with the bow. I've been an on and off archery hunter throughout my years hunting but I took it pretty seriously this year. Shot a doe two weeks ago and then this guy, my first archery buck, this past Friday. Saw him cruising a bench below my stand at around 4. Waited till he was almost out of sight and grunted at him. He stopped, looked back toward me, an proceeded to pee on himself. I let him walk off and have him another 5-10 minutes. Got out my rattle bag and went real light on it with some grunts thrown in for a few minutes. Gave it another 10 or so minutes and grunted then added some "ticks" at the end. Sure enough, here he came right down the run that passes 5yards from my stand. Ears back, head down looking for a fight. Didn't take him long to close the distance and I shot him at about 10 yards quartering away. Done deal. My first archery buck and the first buck I had ever called into bow range. Made it sweeter that I was using one of my custom grunts. It's one of those things that you couldn't have planned better in your head. He's a mainframe 7 with a kicker off the back of his left side making him an 8. Now on to fall turkey season lol. (Picture is of my dad and I. He might have been more excited than I was when I called him lol)
