Droptine Buck Down!!
« on: October 25, 2013, 10:10:14 PM »
Wednesday night was a pretty interesting night for me. Got in stand around 4:00.  About 5:00 I heard something coming up the trail I walked in on, it turned out to be about a 300 lb bear.  Well, the bear walked about 20 yds from me and stopped.  it must've caught some movement as I was taking my Glock .45 from my pack just for caution.  He then started walking toward my tree so i thought, enough is enough.  I began clapping and yelling to get him to run.  He had other plans.  From there he began woofing at me and when I thought he was going to leave, he false charged my tree and came to about 3 yds from the base, stood on his hind legs staring me down.  Needless to say my .45 was ready to bark, thank god he decided to walk away without incident. But it was definitely the most intense 2 min I've had in a while.
About an hour after the ebar came through, I caught movement about 75 yards up from me up on the ridge.  I could see it was a buck but didn't know how big.  I decided to grunt at him a few times.  He did nothing more than look and began walking the other way.  SO I decided to pull out the snort wheeze.  He immediately turned 90 degrees and started coming down the hill.  On his way down (which took almost 20 min) he made 6 scrapes and trashed a small pine sapling. Eventually he came into range and I smoked him at 32 yds.  12 points, 19.5" spread, with a 3" sticker and 4" droptine, 185 lbs.  By far my best buck, it was a very emotional experience for me.  As some of you know, I lost my Dad back in January and as that buck was working his way down the hill, I asked my Dad to "please make this happen".  I know he was right there beside me that night.  Thanks for looking

Ed, as a life long bowhunter, I can appreciate this story with all of the excitement and big bucks brings...the bear on the other hand would probably have had his way, cause I would have just pissed on him ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO.  This is a great buck on all accounts, but certainly so much more noteworthy because of your father and the connection you had.  Congratulations, this day will forever be engrained in your memory bank as a very special time. *up* *up*
