Tell me if I'm wrong!
« on: October 09, 2013, 06:43:19 PM »
Unless they are your BEST friend, father or children....showing someone your best hunting spot for them to enjoy is like showing your friends your wife's new breast implants and coming home only to find them playing with them! I had this discussion with a few coworkers and not to sound cruel but I put a lot of time into scouting and PAYING MY DUES!

Just me, but I still hold faith, that people are basically good. I have had a couple instances, where I took someone to a honey hole and they took it as a free location for them to return to without me, or my permission..............but, more times than not, things haven't been all that bad.

For me it depends on who it is. I have friends that can be trusted and I will take them to my favorite spots to hunt. Then there are those that all they want is for you to show them around your honey hole so they can pop back when they want. I see this and will never bring them no matter how much they ask. I have a guy I work with that wants to set me up on some bow stands and in return he wants me to show the area and give him my knowledge of my  state land hot spot.  IT AIN'T HAPPENING.

I've taken several friends to my Turkey honey hole. I own this ground and I've never had anyone go back without me. (That I know of). I enjoy sharing hunts with friends. I've had problems when I was running Beagles. I'd share a running spot only to find out they took it over  >:(. One place I had that was awesome running, my so called friend told the owner he didn't need permission and got us all thrown out.   *cry*  We had a farm growing up... Dad would let anyone that asked permission to hunt... He'd rain buckshot over there head if they trespassed. People can ruin some fine hunting by not giving the land owner respect and not respecting there property.

The one that tops my  *poo* list  is the one I took and showed him where flocks were, then he goes and start telling everyone that he took me hunting. Really messed up part is that other people beleives this  *poo* Now he gets pissed if one of his other freind go hunting it there without him. Calling it his spot.  ??? I think GOD really loves STUPID , cause he really made a lot of them that way.

I really like taking friends --nothing like sharing the experience.
But--they are the kinda guys that always want ya to take them to your spots---great hunting ground is SACRED to a hunter. There are supposed to be UN WRITTEN rules bewteen hunting buddies that know this and do not need be discussed. A invitation to hunt is that---not permission to return anytime. As Brent said...that a good way to loose ground all together,................but Brents spot has been really good to me sense Frank tells me when Brent's working..... *peep*.

This December, I will be hosting a deer hunt, for six of our "wounded warriors". I don't personally know any of these brave individuals, but all will be hunting on property my family does, QDM on. There are times when our "honey holes" become a special place for those who can really use a helping hand.

Don't get me wrong I am all for the wounded warriors, youth and disabled hunters. I'm involved in a few properties one of which I may take the lead on next year. I just don't care for the hooray for me and not about you stuff. I've taken a few guys turkey hunting and turned a few on to the sport and the same for water fowling. I've taken youth other than my own but the scenario involved someone who put no effort into trying to succeed, just off of a few peoples observations that actually harvest deer. Maybe I take it to serious, I think the scouting and preparation are part of your feeling to success. I love to help people and that's what I do for a living. And I really enjoy that campfire hunting club aptmosphere. There's something to be said for that as well especially for the teasing and story telling.

I have been taking people hunting and telling them spots for years. Yes it's bit me in the butt a few times and you learn real quick who you can trust and who you can't. A friend of mine use to show people hunting spots every year and would do turkey hunting seminars and would give spots away at will. He only made this comment " If you see my truck parked there just move to somewhere else". Most of the land he hunted was public land and the best turkey hunting. I have sent many people in areas where I hunt public land here in CA without hesitation and if they can go there and kill a turkey more power to them. I don't hunt it all the time as I have some private land I also hunt. Even though I send people in these areas I still do OK on my own. If there are turkeys out there and are gobbling I'll take my chances.

The only time I'll lie to you is during turkey season..... ;D... Actually the guys I hunt with on the 12,000 acre club I'm in down here are pretty good about helping each other out especially during the youth hunt. We try our best to get every kid hunting on a gobbling turkey. Most of us respect other hunters that are hunting a particular turkey as long as they stay with him. If he hunts somewhere else......well it's game on. When it comes to hunting my hard earned public land spots that I hunt on bicycle well your .... *poo*...out of luck period... ;D
If your going to play the game, play by the rules.....

I've not gotten bitten yet, but I've only taken a few people to my honey holes.  It would irk me if they went back there and ruined it for me.  Ole dcole was shown several of my honey holes and he even received permission to hunt here without me.  They enjoyed him that much and I gained even more appreciation from them knowing I had some good friends :)

Hunting land is like fishing spots.  My grandpa would always respond when asked, "where'd you catch that fish?"  .. he'd say, in the mouth.  hahaha..

My turkey hunting mentor said it best; Old Gobblers hunt best alone. That being said, I enjoy hunting with very close friends sometimes. True friends that would not tread on me.

I don't hunt with many people, but the one's that I hunt with regularly, I share all my honey holes and they do the same for me.   I'm just as excited when they harvest an animal as if I killed it myself.
