Turpin One Sider for a Callmaker Friend
« on: October 03, 2013, 08:51:55 AM »
Last year in Nashville I shared a booth for a short time with a callmaker that ordered one of my Turpin One Siders.  He was very specific and wanted one just like he was playing.  The call he was playing was a newly developed Turpin One sider in California Myrtle over Whiskey Island Walnut from Mississippi.  I had entered the call it in the 2012 competion and my son had bought it back.  I am completely out of Whiskey Island Walnut, but this is the first call out of a piece of butt cut walnut that I posted in General Discussion.  It is teamed with another of the same California Myrtle that was given to me by Bill Henkel.  There is something about the Myrtle/Walnut combination in a Turpin that makes that High Raspy Old Hen come to life.  You can just hear her trying to run you to the next County.  This one sounds as good or better than the Orginal.  Thanks for the look.
Mr. E

Brian,  Should a mud cured trumpet end up in Mississippi.  A like Turpin Myrtle/Butt Cutt Walnut one sider could end up in Georgia my friend.

I will bring yours to Nashville.  Frank, --- who made that great knife I got?  I have been using it to burnish with as well as several other things.  Course I used to call it case hardening when I was doing it on duck call tone boards 45 years ago with an old duck master.  We used the flat side and back of a Case knife.

Well I got to do just that, as Mr. E ran the One sider over the phone. I liked it so much that I got on his list for one. The sound is pure turkey and I will be proud to own one. Great sounding call John, Thank's for your time.
