New Kid on the Block
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:48:00 AM »
To my surprise when I opened the package that had my recent Snakewood striker, there was another item wrapped down in the box. When I opened it I found this beautiful glass pot call from West Augusta. Steve is just learning the ropes on making pot calls but he certainly did his homework. Great sound and craftsmanship in this one. I truly appreciate it Steve. Like I told you, when you get tired of your Engineering job I believe you have something you can fall back on.  *lol*

Congrats Rickey on a pot call to match your striker, I have to confess, I did see this one earlier this week and couldn't wait to see your reaction.  Its a good one for sure!

Brian,

It is scrap Maple that Steve gets through his work.
Thanks Rickey, That was my second guess. It looked a little dark, but not enough for Cherry and I know Steve likes the Dogwood.
Great way to recycle those wood scraps. *up*

Glad that you like it Rickey and thanks for all you have done for me.

Brian, the wood is dunnage.  It is scrap maple that comes into the plant on pallets.  Some of it had some color to it and is free so I got a slip for it.  I ran it through the planer, cut it and laminated three pieces together and turned a pot call out of it.  I figure it is better to learn on free wood before I start buying the expensive stuff.  I have a lot to learn about making pots. This way, I'm not out anything if I mess up.  And mess up I have.  I also stained Rickey's pot call.
