Any Ideas
« on: August 22, 2013, 11:35:13 AM »
I hate to sit in one place all day and watch for a deer or a turkey. I have to have a full knee replacement Sept. 25-2013 and was told by my doctor that I could not even do office work for 6 weeks. He also told me he wanted me rehabing hard but not to climb any hills. How are you going to bow or turkey hunt WV without climbing hills. I got an idea. I have a place I can hunt, and have dad drive me right out into a small hay field. I think I am going to build me a blind and put a fold up chair in it. He can let me out before daylight and pick me up at dark. I will bow hunt out of it and when Fall turkey opens I will still hunt with my bow but take my calls and just call ever so often. I hate to hunt this way but I hate to sit at the house when hunting season is in. When riffle buck season opens I will just sit there with my riffle. If I kill a deer I can raido dad, and he can help he get it to the truck. I can throw some corn out to help pull a deer into bow range. I don't like to bait but I can't hunt excape routs or trails this year. I just have to make sure there is not corn there when turkey season opens.
Do any of you guys have any other ideas that I may use during this time. It was either mess up this Fall season or mess up Spring season of 2014, and I did not want to do that. Any other ideas welcome. Lonnie Jr.

Hey Lonnie,  First I'll say good luck with the knee surgery, we pray that it goes well. Do you remember the year our buddy Ray Burks was in the cast and hunted with the custom camo walker complete with bow holder? I think it doesn't matter how you get out there, just so you get out there. And though the tactics may be different than what your used to, you got to do what you got to do. You sound like you got a plan and if all else fails call Ray he may still have the walker.

Lonnie. Good luck with the knee surgery.  Don't skimp on the rehab.  It is painful but you have to push and break up the scar tissue. Once healed, you'll feel much better.  My mother and Aunt have had both knees replaced and are doing much better. No pain at all now.

My wife had a both knees replaced at the same time.  She's a trooper!  From her experience I can say it's how well you rehab and control the pain.  The surgery is the easy part.

Good luck Lonnie. I spent 10 months on crutches and most of it I had no use of my right leg. I hunted much like you are talking about. Friends would help me set up then come back to help me to the truck. It worked.

Good luck Lonnie. You will do fine. My mother in law had both done at the same time. In 4 months she could almost run.

Thanks guys. I think I will do ok, with my idea. The Doc told me I would be lucky to get a year to a year and 1/2 out of the other knee. The reason I don't wait is I have put it off for 2 years already. I  can take a lot of pain, but I can't take the pain any longer. I kept putting it off because I was building my cabin. It took me a while to get it built working 1.5 days a week on it and with only help from the wife. It kills me going down hill or climbing a ladder. I just hurts all the time, it keeps me up most of the night now.
