River Otters at play...

I happened to notice these River Otters from a distance and it took a moment of observing them to determine what they were. I managed to creep up within 10-15 feet away and got a few shots before they noticed me. I watched them play much like puppies....somewhat rare sight here...not as much trapping going on now so they seem to be increasing in numbers..

Mother Nature has sure given you her greatness where you live...and you clearly have a real knack for being in the right place at the right time...so much of what great photography is all about.  10-15 feet is truly remarkable!  This is indeed a rare occurance and a real fortunate one for you.  More so than a Beaver, Muskrat, or Mink, the River Otter are very curious and are more forgiving to intrusions...these look like young Otters and I suspect Mom may have been nearby.

Thanks Scott..Mama was indeed nearby...I did get quite a few pictures of her and her young...here is one of her feeding on what appeared to be a water lily or cattail bulb about the time she noticed me...

That is cool!  2nd what was said about being so close too.  I have a few in the river here but they are seldom, SELDOM seen.  Much less have gotten close enough for pics.  Well done!
