Ebony/Ivory Trumpet (with ferrel)
« on: July 28, 2013, 03:43:05 PM »
This is the same yelper I posted a couple of weeks ago...but with a scrimshawed ivory ferrel on it now.  When I was gluing it up the first time, the mouthpiece was snug, and, when I twisted it into place, I cracked it.  It was a hairline (pic at bottom here), but a crack nonetheless.  So, I took it apart, turned the bottom off the mouthpiece, and made in ivory ferrel for it.  Man did I hate taking a finished call apart.  Nerve wracking.  But I'm happy now that I did and that there are no flaws in the ivory.  I also think the ferrel adds to the looks as well as the ruggedness of the call, and I had fun doing the turkey and barn scrimshaw scene.
