This past May, Bill Lyman came down to Pa for a hunt and brought me some nice snakewood to play around with. Well I finally got my hands on a beautiful piece of curly maple to go along with it so I decided to build a call for myself....something I don't do very often. I wasn't sure how the snakewood was going to turn out as a paddle call lid but surprisingly, I was able to make it work. I also decided to go the extra mile with the finish on this call by going through the process of making the grain in the Maple "pop" by applying a dye and sanding it down before applying boiled linseed oil, shellac, and finally laquer. For the lid, I used the same process, but then hand rubbed the finish from 400 grit wet sanding down to 12000 grit to make a mirror finish. THis call will be with me in the woods this fall, it has some nasty rasp and a really snappy old hen yelp. Hope you enjoy seeing it. Thanks for looking
