Black powder turkey
« on: May 11, 2013, 07:17:17 PM »
Started the morning off with my buddy. We had some heavy rain early and waited till it let up a bit. We covered some ground, calling in two hens and then bumping one still in a tree at 9.30. The birds have been getting some pressure in this spot and have been pretty silent. At 10.00 we had covered just about every spot in that area that we thought had birds. My buddy said birds aren't talking and he had  enough, so we left. On my way home I just had to try one spot with an hour left. I had a good bird hammering back at me there the week before but had to leave him to attend a funeral. Tried him Friday and never got a peep. But figured its better than going home. So I rushed in there and started covering ground trying to find him. At 11.15 I got a response
from my box way off. I hit him again and got a second response, and then he gobbled on his own and closer. Found a tree and hit him again and he was rite on top of me, barely had time to get my mask on. Couple more clucks sealed the deal. Pedersoli 10 guage, AYC-walnut box I made, bird weighed 20 1/4 lbs.,9" beard and 3/4 spurs.

Good job! *cheers* Perfect day not to set the woods a fire. I'm gonna get me one of those sumday. That's a great accomplishment.
