Well my trip to NY has been very successful so far..... Chuck took me under his wing this morning and got us on some birds.
The birds started off this morning with birds pitching off the roost on the bench down below us, there was some gobbler chasing and scolding going on before our eyes but out of range. The birds were pretty vocal until a shot close by clammed them up.
After letting the woods settle for a half hour or so the hunt continued. We moved in the direction the birds went, bumped the hens but to our benefit the gobbler straggled behind. Chuck hit him with his tube call. Gobble obble obble down to our right, yelp yelp cutt cutt purrr, Gobble obble obble.
Chuck just got a smile on his face. We just got set up and I saw him come into view, he went into strut, dropped out..... gobble obble obble.
I had the 10 gauge up and pointed in his direction, I just couldn't pick up him up, peeked over the scope, there he was, put the crosshairs on his head, tightened up and beared down.
Bang!!!!!! Chuck said he was dead......
21lbs 9.25" beard 3/4" spurs......
Thanks Chuck!! Hopefully tomorrow a double......
