#3 Down in Tennessee

I got out yesterday morning and got set up in a good spot. I looked up and had a monster in the field. I didn't realize how big till two big jakes came up to him, he is huge. They were feeding to me when a couple of hens show up and pull the toms out of the field. That was the bad news. The good news is I know where they are coming into and leaving the field from roost.

We had rain coming in that afternoon so I set up about 2:30 to cut them off headed to roost. At a little after 4 I had a hen come out. While I was watching her through binos I heard PUTT behind me then another PUTT. I looked and a hen was squared off with a decoy. She started feeding and a couple of minutes later I see 2 toms and a hen headed my way. It is the 2 big jakes that are hanging with the old smart bird. They fed straight to me then saw my jake decoy and came RUNNING. When they got into the decoys I picked one and let 'er rip. He went about 15 yards to the edge of the woods and piled up. Not sure what happened there but he went down.

Not a monster or even mature but I haven't killed many turkeys plus the hunt worked just as planned and the big boy is still there. I have 1 tag left to finish off what is now my best season ever.

The other thing that made the day I listened to over 30 toms that morning, I lost count after awhile, then saw a total of 17 toms during the day. Not bad at all.

6" beard and no spurs to speak of but I am happy with him.
