Well what a season. I think it's been crazy/strange for everyone...
My first bird was on opening day here in MO. Harvested with a slate over slate call from Ed Jenkins. I had a bird an hour earlier come in and hang up at 67 yards... I thought my day was over after that, but I sparked this long beard up and in he came! Shot him at 25 yards...

Yesterday was a cold start that turned into an awesome day! I watched nine longbeards fight for almost 2 hours. After some time I noticed two birds break away. I thought at first they were jakes, but then they came over a hump and I knew they were longbeards. I did some soft calling and sure enough, about 30 minutes later I heard them gobble about 50 yards in front of us. I was behind a cedar tree and couldn't see them where they were at. I gave some soft purrs and clucks and I could see their shadows and they had dropped out of strut. I used a Morgan slate/copper pot and yelper from gonhuntin.
In a matter of seconds they came 50 yards and I shot my bird on the right at 25 yards... my buddy then smoked the second bird. I have never doubled and this year I've witnessed two doubles!

And the funnest part of the hunt, is walking out with the birds over your shoulder!

Now it's time to get ready for Kansas!
