confiscated boxcall
« on: March 09, 2013, 08:16:12 PM »
I make a boxcall or 2 every year for a local childrens benefit auction. They use the money for a "fishing day" and stock catfish, cook out hotdogs and hamburg's. Have seminars on hunting and shooting. Its all free. We clean any fish they catch and they can take em home. Doesn't cost any kid a penny. So I help with the expenses in my little way.  I made this boxcall with the intention of donating it. Anyway, my wife, who is VERY understanding of my turkey hunting, travels and call building affliction has had a long standing rule called "First Dibbs". She rarely uses it but she has her own little collection of sorts going on (she can run the heck out of a box). Well, she saw this one and started on "First Dibbs!"  "First Dibbs!".  I gently told her that this one was for the kids.....She got all sad and pouty (I hate when she does that), and then she kinda grinned and said "Gosh honey, good thing you have plenty of time to make another one!".  So...this call got confiscated by the Boss before it ever had a CHANCE to get out the door. It is English walnut body with some crazy curly Ash for the lid and base. Inlayed a little breast feather. Parqueted it up a bit with some black walnut, cypress and sumac for a little extra jazz. Pull a few more dollars outta the bidders!  Turned out real nice with a nice solid breaking yelp on both sides. Kinda reminds me of one of those fine old Lynch calls.
