Weatherby SA08 20 gauge. 28 inch barrel
« on: March 09, 2013, 05:16:59 PM »
Did a little shooting today with my weatherby. I havent shot it since adding the pistol grip, or with a truglo SSX or with federal 6s. All my yardages are steel taped.

With Truglo SSX

With Sumtoy 562-5( hunted this last year. 10 round pattern in high 140s)

With pure gold

They are all dead birds I am thinking.  I haven't tried too many of the Fed 7's.  Seems like they are hard to find when I am in the mood and looking.  Have you tried the hevi shot 7's?  My 20 likes them real well.

Yes, there is a Hevi 13 7 pattern in those pictures. I believe it was the 2nd picture. They shoot good out of my remington 20 ga 870....they average 155 out of a truglo SSX in that gun, but the same choke also throws a 145 pattern with the federal 7s. I prefer the federals over hevi since they are so much heavier.

What Im impressed with is the Fed 6 pattern out of the purgold. This pure gold shoots a 90 to 100 type pattern with the 7s. It looks pretty good with the 6s.

I guess I missed the hevishot pic. :-[  I tried a bunch of different chokes in my little 20 project. The 2 best for me were an Undertaker (marked for lead ony but I shot the Hevishot in it anyway) and a Pure Gold in .570.  The .570 shoots a little looser than the .555's I tried but at closer range it is more spread out. The .555's at 15-20 yards looked like golf balls or something. Scary tite. I am gonna try some of the Fed's when I can find them. Have you tried the Magblend?  It shoots well in my 20's also. Not as high pellet count but not off by much. And its got some of those big bone breakin' shot in there.

No I haven't tried the mag blends. I'm not really a fan of Hevi products. I'm running the Feds through both my 20 ga guns. I've got 40 boxes stashed, so more than enough to last.

The SSX just continues to amaze me in the 20.. Pretty much everything I have put through it in the past 5 or so years has been great.
