Earnest Black Turkey Call?
« on: March 08, 2013, 05:43:52 PM »
This call belonged to a man who purchased this call in or around 1994 at the Peavley flea market in Missouri. To my knowledge Mr. Black and Mr. Cost were the only call makers making this style call in 1994. There is no signature or markings on the call. I've been told that not until Earl Mickel published his first book it was common for call makers not to sign their calls. The call is in perfect condition and sounds awesome!

Don't believe everything you hear , alot of callmakers signed or marked their calls . I have and/or have seen many examples back to the beginning of the 20th century. The South Carolina Peg Box has been built by many different callmakers over the years and some guys are still making them . Without a signature or some provenance , it would be hard to say that it was made by Mr Black. Earnest did sign his calls and put his address on the side of them .
