*NEW* 2013 Turkey Call Collectors Guide , Calls Callmakers and more !

  I wanted to let everyone know about a new book that is hot off the presses . George Denka , author of The Turkey Call Collectors Guide , has written a new and revised edition of his book . The new book contains price guides for collectable turkey calls as well as a section on callmakers . George was prompted to write his first book by Earl Mickel . After 5 years , he felt it was time to revise the price guide and showcase a few more callmakers . A few of us lucky Roosters have made it into the book . George will not have a booth this year at the Grand National Convention but he will be there all weekend and says he can be found near the decorative turkey call dislpay and/or the turkey call appraisal area  .

Is this the same guy who used Ebay as one of his sources to determine the value of calls in the other book? Just curious. Cause ebay sure ain't the way to determine prices for anything. 

Why would it not be a source to be averaged in for value?

My point was ebay prices are so up and down, depending on when the call maker sold the call, The price could have been very high or very low. Most don't sell calls on there year round.

Exactly my point....
All the more reason for them to be figured into an "AVERAGE" for pricing.  Ebay for the most part is a good source for true market value.  Just look how many here use and watch it.

I only use Ebay to get a bargain or find a call no longer in production. I will contact a callmaker if I want a call. I definitely will not get in a bidding war!

Ebay is up and down....Most time you can get it cheaper elsewhere,and that includes from the maker.. Just look at the thunderdome!!

I bought the first book and was truely dissappointed.
Not to discredit George....he tried.

George's first book relied heavily on online auction prices but they were not the sole source . That is one of the reasons for the revised price guide. He has received call prices from collectors sales records and from callmakers who contacted him about  their prices ,in addition to sales listed online from ebay and other sources. George was encouraged and helped by Earl Mickel to pick up where he left off with chronicling turkey calls and callmakers. Ebay prices are a very valid source because they are actual sales. My advice to callmakers is to not sell many calls on ebay because it sets your price. A good example is Darryel Helms from Kentucky who sells more than 100 calls a year on there.  The guy makes nice calls but cant get more than $35 for them on ebay because he sells so many and lists them too low.  Also I would suggest not listing a call for less than you want for it because if you accept less than you want, then you just dropped your own price.

 Some valid points on both sides. I haven't sold a call on eBay....ever! If I did I would put a reserve on it and hold to it. The problem I see w/ using eBay for pricing guide, is that many sellers don't provide the correct information w/ the call or the photos are so bad, you can't get a good idea of what the call looks like or its' condition. This can make for a bad auction, all around, which forces the average price down. Also, many calls show up in the wrong listing area causing the bidding to be sparse.
