A very nice gentlemen and old time turkey hunter, Herb McClure, sent me a letter last week about his new book – Native Turkeys. I purchased a DVD from Mr. McClure several years ago, and this book discusses memories/stories from the DVD. In addition, there is a chapter “…on Leon Johnenning of late, who lived in Lexington, Va, and sold a turkey call dubbed Leon’s caller.” Mr. McClure has been using this call for the past 50 years. A small sampling of what this book covers by a true student of the wild turky!
According to a book review Mr. McClure sent me, the book title refers to the “…original wild turkeys of Georgia’s high mountains.” He relates “…stories told to me by old time turkey hunters, how they hunted before legal hunting was allowed again, and how these type of hunts were required, because the game areas were gated and locked down.”
Mr. McClure asked me to share info about his new book with my turkey hunting friends, which is the sole purpose of this note. I ordered a book, and will provide more feedback after I read it.
If you are interested in ordering a copy of Native Turkeys, send a check made out to Native Turkeys for $19.95 plus $5.00 for shipping and handling and mail to:
