ShadeTree Callers " Stepside Longbox " Turkey Call !

 I've been experimenting with different call designs for the last couple of years in an attempt to achieve the sounds I want in a longbox . After much trial and error , I have built the call I have always wanted to make . This is what I call a stepside longbox due to the radical shape of the body . These calls have the most natural sounds I have heard in a longbox before and will kee kee , yelp , cluck , purr, cackle and gobble with a tone that sounds like a real turkey to my ears. I wanted to maintain the original looks of my longboxes but improve the sound and also the playability of the call . These calls will run very easy and you can play them like a Cost call or run the paddle flat  and anyone can make them sound good . They will even run upside down .
 This call was made for Scott Basehore as my end of a longbox trade. The call is made from yellow poplar , box elder burl and walnut , with a maple paddle . The feedback from Scott is very encouraging.  When he first got the caller , he rang me up to tell me how much he liked the new call. He also said he came up with a nickname for the calls because they reminded him of a song by classic rockers Queen... Scott picked   "Fat-Bottomed Girls " and says that is what I should call them ! I like it !!
 The #1 stepside call was purchased by former NWTF National President, Gene Goodwin . Gene fell in love with the poplar and maple caller that I showed him and wouldn't leave without it .  His collection contains over 1,000 calls and he tells me this is the best sounding longbox he has ever run before .
 I am building these calls in a limited number of combos that have proven to work in this style . Poplar with maple or zebrawood , and also butternut with maple or zebrawood . I have only let a few of these calls out to collectors and hunters so far and the feedback from everyone is 100% positive . Thanks guys !  Steve , I wanted to keep the same look to my call since people identify me with it and it has "eye appeal" . But I wanted to make a call that sounds superior and one that plays easy enough that everyone can make them sound good . My original caller was made to run the lid flat like a boxcall but I noticed that folks who had watched Neil Cost's video on the longbox , would try to run the lid canted up like Neil did with his calls . My calls weren't made to run that way so the user wouldn't get the same sounds as I did when I ran it for them . I feel like these calls run easy enough for everyone to get the same sound out of them no matter how you choose to run it. In my opinion , the longbox caller is so versatile that it is the only boxcall you need to carry . No other call will kee kee , yelp and gobble like a longbox can do with the nasally tone of a real turkey IMO.
