Yeah, when I said checker the paddle, I was referring to the underside with about 30 per inch both ways

If Blackwood works for a box call, I suspect Ebony x 2 will also.

I would never have imagine blackwood working, Bill.  Thanks for sharing these pictures and insights.  I did order some slate slabs from Grassy Creek.  So, I may try the inlay method with the ebony, if need be.

I would say that friction wont be the biggest issue . The ebony will work when chalked up good. The high density of the ebony will be the challenge. Your dimensions will have to be perfect to achieve the proper vibration needed to get turkeys out of the ebony body in particular. Good luck , cant wait to see your results!

Well, I think you could make it a little easier on yourself and try glass over glass for a box call ROTFLMBO
Seriously, I think it 'might' be possible, but it depends on your definition and interpretation of "assuming everything else is right"  Giver her a whirl and let us know
I gave her a whirl. It played real good with chalk. Thanks to the guys who posted the pics of the ebony, ivory and blackwood calls earlier. Gave me the encouragement to try it. I entered this in the NWTF show.
