Had my first ever experience hunting turkeys with a dog on Saturday. It was pretty interesting. I went with a buddy in VA (Wilson) who uses pointers and a drop. His regular hunting buddy, Paul went along as well.

We slept in, and got into the woods around 9 o'clock. After turning the drop out (Speck), it took about 10 minutes for her to bust a flock of turkeys. One of them flew right to Paul who shot him before he landed.
Wilson was in no hurry to set up and call turkeys in -- he wanted to let the dog hunt some more and then come back later and call. I went along with the plan.
About 30 minutes later, Speck busted a second flock. After the dust settled, I couldn't stand it any more, and when Wilson wanted to let the dog finish hunting the property, I suggested that he keep going without me and I'd set up and call some turkeys.
So I did. Within ten minutes I heard one yelp, and a couple minutes later...

I was toting the CZ 28 gauge, and shooting the 1-5/16 oz of T9s. I took about a 35 yard shot.
It was sure nice to get back out in the woods and do some yelping.
