doubled up
« on: October 20, 2012, 06:26:21 PM »
This morning started out slow was overcast and no birds talking. We just couldn't seem to find them. After the second setup my buddy had to leave and I went to check out a different section. On the third setup, I was talking to one of my other buddies and I heard a cluck. Got off of the phone and left the vest in the truck and grabbed a couple of boxes. A high pitched Holly and Desert Ironwood and mature Apricot and Macassar Ebony box. I hadn't been in the part in a long time and boy the woods were wide open. I find a tree and give a kee kee and some yelps and nothing. I hit the mature hen box and nothing. I kee kee and hit the mature hen box again and the woods lights up. Not sure how many by quite a few turkeys. I start keeing and yelping and they are running. They get about 50 yards and just locked up and looking. I can't move and no Trumpet so I rake leaves with my foot and one steps out from behind the thick stuff and I rolled it. The rest start running around and I peeled another one. I start in keeing and yelping and messed with the other for about 30 minutes. I tried to get a Snakewood lid to work on the Holly but couldn't so I will have to build a couple more.  ::)

I went back in the Sunday morning and got the gobblers fired up but they were across the road and  when they came up to the road bed a vehicle came down the road and run them back into the woods. I pull out for a while to let thing settle down and run across an Old friend of mine that had a stroke in September after visiting with him for awhile I told him to go get them.  He could really use a boost and I left praying he got on them. That's the problem with getting older losing friend or they get sick on you.
