Carved Goldfinch

Greg Guthridge of Shadow Turkey calls invited us to visit with his family and view the PA Elk herd.  We were not disappointed.  Besides seeing more big bulls with trophy racks than I saw in CO, I also found that Greg was a very talented wildlife carver.  He had a half finished finch and talked me through the rest of the process of putting on the feather contour and paint.  Greg came up with the creative idea of having the finch sit on one of his uncle's old time turkey calls, with hand written scripture on the sides.  I believe his uncle was in Mickels first book.

Here is the result of our labor.

Greg's work is outstanding.  Not only birds, but I saw first hand what he does with his carved animals and fish.  His presention adds to the realisim of the subject.  The finch has an honored place in our dining room

Hope to see more of his work here.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments.   It was an honor to have Ralph and his wife Linda at our place to visit.  I was fortunate that Ralph had brought along some of his turkey weaponry to share with me.  If you havent had a chance to talk with Ralph on the subject of wind instruments, I highly recommend it.

Ralph takes all the credit on this carved bird,

 This was the first time he had touched an airbrush, not to mention a double stage one.
