It's got a spur, so it must be a turkey... Right?


It was attached to this...

Not the girl--the thing behind her! 11'8" long. Never gobbled, though.

These are special turkeys, silverspur! They only let us hunt them one week in September.  :-\
Al, they're sneaky, too! They crawl around on their bellies and run them beards right off! *peep*

Chalk up 2 more! Went out again and did a catch and release on 2 seven footers. That makes 8 for the year! Been a good season! *bannana* *bannana* *bannana*

Yeah, it's been a good year! We've had a lot of fun. We started out with this little fellow...

He was only 10 feet long.

Then I went back with the lady you see pictured above and, well, you see the result of that hunt. Then, last Saturday night, a couple of buddies of mine went to some private property to catch a 9 foot female they knew about. They found something else...

Somewhere during that 5-hour battle, one of them said "call Ken! We need some help on this thing!". Remember, they hooked up at about 5:00 p.m., expecting a 30 minute episode with a respectable female. Sometime after 10:00 THIS was drug up out of the water! He was 11'10" of pure bullheaded meanness!


...And, just to throw in a real eye opener.. This is the new, official MS State weight record at 697.5 lbs. He was 13' 1.5" long. I wasn't in on this catch, but I sure wish I was! What a pig!!!!

Awesome Ken!  We have a very limited gator season in Alabama; two weekends in August, Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights.  You apply for a tag (can only get one per person) and it's like a lottery.  You can buy up to 10 entries at $6 a piece; I bought 5 tickets and drew a tag.  Some people bought all 10 and didn't get a tag, so I felt lucky.

My original team bailed on me after only one night during the first weekend, but I hooked up with another group on the last night of the second weekend.  It was only a 7.5 footer, but I was more than happy with it, as it was my first gator (and I thought my tag was going to go to waste)!



Now, the one we hooked-up with in an attempt to fill one of the other guy's tag was a true BEAST.  We only had 15 minutes left in the season when we hooked him (5:45 a.m.), but the rule is that you can continue hunting one if you have a line in him.  I swear he looked at least as big as the state-record one in your picture.  The guys I was with said it was "by far" the biggest one they've ever seen, and they took an 11.5-footer the week before and a 12-footer the year before (keep in mind that most of the fight was in daylight).  They blind casted at him when he went under, and one of my buddies got lucky and hooked him.  He sat on the bottom for an hour and 15 minutes before coming up to show us his true size!  They didn't want to use my awesome snatch hooks for some reason, and when they finally let me get in position to use my crossbow, he never came near the boat again.  After about 3.5 hours he finally grew tired of our games and snapped the 80# line.  I believe we NEVER would have taken that beast down with simply rod/reels and a harpoon.  I have him marked on my GPS, so there's always next year . . .

Man those are awesome!!!!!  I love seeing this Ken!!! 

Ken spent a huge amount of time with my son while we were in MS and Mitchell is ate up with gator hunting now!!!
